First Impressions/Wayfinding Program
Wayfinder Patient Ambassadors are a special group of volunteer that help San Francisco General Hospital & Trauma Center develop a positive first impression! Through patient interaction, Wayfinders help improve patient experience and enhance patient satisfaction.
Wayfinder Patient Ambassadors assist patients and visitors with navigating the hospital and its treatment process at numerous locations, clinics and departments, including Urgent Care Center, Radiology & Imaging Department and Surgery Center. In a large public hospital, Wayfinders help fill a very real need for non-clinical guidance and patient support.
Wayfinder Patient Ambassador duties will include giving directions, providing wheelchair and escorting assistance, support patients with non-clinical needs (registration, pharmacy, lost and found), working with patients in waiting areas to be sure they have everything they need, and most of all supporting patients by listening, addressing needs, and presenting an open, friendly, and caring attitude.
This position is ideal for individuals interested in medicine, public health, social work, or psychology. Volunteers will gain important experience in patient interaction and will have a chance to learn more about how a hospital functions on a daily basis.
Good interpersonal skills, flexibility in working with people of different cultures and backgrounds, and commitment to learning details about the hospital’s registration system, hospital policies, clinic locations, and more. Must be comfortable standing or walking for extended periods of time. Bilingual prospective volunteers are highly encouraged.
